DEATH STALKS THE NIGHT...

Andover is a quiet town. No screams disturb its slumber, although perhaps they should--when the bones of the dead are taken form their graces, and the residents begin to disappear...

But who could guess that behind the walls of a local hospital, a cult of inhuman bloodsuckers lurk and feed and fiendishly devise a new defense against their ancient weakness? When modern medicine teams with undead evil, only one man can stop it.

...AND NOW IT STALKS THE DAY

Abraham Stroud is many things archeologist, psychic, and detective. But more than that, he's a man who sees past the deceptive reality of everyday life, into the dark shadows where the horrors of myth and nightmare dwell. His is a lonely battle against monsters no one else dares to believe in.

But you don't have to believe in vampires for them to tear you apart...

(Approximately 90,000 words.)

You may have heard of the Jersey Devil, but have you heard of the Andover Devil? In the small town of Andover Illinois, Dr. Abraham Stroud has returned to his childhood home after his grandfathers death to live a quiet peaceful life in his grandfathers mansion, Stroud Manse. Dr. Stroud a former Chicago Police Officer doesn't realize how much he doesn't know about his late grandfather or Great Grandfather, or the town of Andover and nearby Spoon River. Dr. Stroud will soon learn after two boys come up missing in the town and a car ends up in the Spoon river, with one body found and one missing that the towns folks are not trusting of him or his late grandfather and that some in the town are hiding the truth about what really is happening. It will take every bit of the training Dr. Stroud received as a anthropologist, archeologist and his years as a detective to uncover the mystery known as the Andover Devil and to find out what really caused his grandfathers death.

The first of 4 books in the Blood Screams series by Robert. Walker Aka Geoffrey Caine, this book is not your typical Vampire romance novel that is so popular right now, even though that is what the cover might suggest. Dr. Stroud is more like Bram Stokers Van Helsing than it is an Ann Rice novel. It character Abraham Stroud and the story line do share some of the same attributes as the Charlene Harris Southern Vampire series, but this book was written ten year before the release of Dead until Dark.

In this book Dr. Stroud has some psychic powers that are attributed to his injury he suffered in the Vietnam War, which like Sookie Stackhouse can be good and bad. Both Dr. Stroud and Sookie lose their parents and are raised by a grandparent The Vampires in the novel also have a substitute for straight human blood as do the vampires in the Southern Vampire series, but that is where the similarities ends.

If you're a fan of a horror and tales of vampires you will enjoy this book, and don't forget it doesn't end here there are 3 more books so far in the Abraham Stroud series. So at 2.99 give it a shot it's cheaper than some of the new releases out and a better story to sink your fangs in too.

Vampire Dreams Archaeology vs Supernatural Bloodscreams Book 1 edition by Robert W Walker Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book didn't follow the usual way we think about killing vampires. Once I got into the story it turned out to be very interesting and it introduced me to the hero, Abe Stroud. It followed a rather unorthodox way of killing pires. The ending is left open because you can't annihilate all the vampires, who knows we may eventually see Abe Stroud in Russia.
I could only give this book three stars for two reasons. The first being that the book really didn't get interesting/suspenseful until about the last third of the book. I'm surprised I stuck it out to be honest. The second being the formatting/editing issues in this book. Other reviewers have pointed them out but they are hugely distracting. No page or chapter breaks to indicate a new scene. There were also blatant typos, missing quote marks, wrong words, etc. These could be forgiven if the story was totally riveting but I didn't find it to be. The vampires in this book are gruesome, disgusting creatures, which I'm sure is what the author intended, and I did enjoy the hero of the story but I definitely think the name and book cover didn't really match the story.
Robert Walker has a strong voice in all his books, but I thoroughly enjoyed his voice in this book, the first in his Bloodscreams series. Abraham Stroud, retired cop, war hero, archeologist and much more, has inherited his uncle's home in Andover, Illinois. Turns out, Stroud has psychic episodes which he believes are brought on by the steel plate in his head.
When a small boy goes missing in his new hometown, Stroud gets a vision of the boy being killed. It drives him to join the hunt for the child and ultimately puts Stroud in the crosshairs of a group of vampires who've slowly been building a power base in this small town.
Creepy images of humans trapped in cocoons, to be drained of the blood when necessary, along with horrific transformations from human form to huge bat form make this a gruesome book, but Walker doesn't simply shock us. He draws a vivid image of the tragedies as well as plotting a well-crafted story about a man who is so driven by his humanity that he will risk his sanity to save others from the vicious vampires plaguing his town.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I much prefer my vampires ugly and beastly than handsome and tragic, so Walker's depiction of the evil bloodsuckers was spot-on for me.
This book is very readable and enjoyable. I'd highly recommend it.
